Abstract

Las personas mayores siguen manteniendo actividad sexual a pesar de las barreras relativas a la salud y otros aspectos sociales que podrían limitarla o alterarla. La investigación ha constatado que variables sociodemográficas como la actividad sexual previa, tener pareja sexual o el tiempo que se lleva con ella, se constituyen como condicionantes de la actividad sexual de la persona mayor. El objetivo de esta investigación ha sido conocer los factores sociodemográficos (edad, nivel educativo, procedencia, existencia de pareja actual y anteriores) asociados a la actividad sexual del último año de 200 hombres y mujeres de entre 62 y 91 años residentes en la Ciudad de Santa Rosa (El Oro, Ecuador). Además de recoger los datos sociodemográficos, se empleó la escala SRA-Q (Lee et al., 2016) para conocer su actividad sexual. Los resultados sugieren que, para la muestra femenina, la existencia de pareja, tener menos de 70 años y proceder de la Costa, podrían asociarse a la actividad sexual del último año. Sin embargo, las variables sociodemográficas que podrían diferenciar entre hombres sexualmente activos y los que no han tenido actividad sexual durante el último año serían el nivel educativo y la existencia de parejas anteriores.

Resumen

Older people continue to engage in sexual activity despite barriers related to health and other social aspects that could limit or alter it. The research has found that sociodemographic variables such as previous sexual activity, having a sexual partner or the time spent with them are considered determining factors of older people’s sexual activity. The objective of this research was to determine the sociodemographic factors (age, educational level, origin, existence of a current and previous partner) associated with sexual activity in the last year of 200 men and women aged between 62 and 91 years, residing in the City of Santa Rosa (El Oro, Ecuador). In addition, to collect sociodemographic data, the SRA-Q scale (Lee et al., 2016) was used to determine their sexual activity. The results suggest that, for the female sample, the existence of a partner, being under 70 years of age and coming from the coast, may be associated with sexual activity in the last year. However, the sociodemographic variables that could differentiate between sexually active men and those who have not had sexual activity in the last year are educational level and the existence of previous partners.
